5 Signs You Need to Replace an Electrical Control Panel in Florida

5 Signs You Need to Replace an Electrical Control Panel in Florida

Is your home's electrical control panel 20, 30, or even 40 years old now? If so, you're probably going to need to think about replacing it with a new electrical panel soon.

The average electrical panel will last for between 20 and 30 years. After that, you'll likely face one problem after another with a residential electrical panel if you don't work to have it replaced.

There are also a handful of other signs that'll show you might need to have an updated electrical control panel put in place. Check out five of them below and call one of your local electrical services for help if you need a new electrical panel in Florida.

1. Tripping Circuit Breakers

Your home's electrical control panel is filled with circuit breakers. Each of these circuit breakers is designed to trip if you try to draw too much power from one.

If you have a circuit breaker that trips every so often, it won't be that big of a deal. But if you have a circuit breaker or, worse, multiple circuit breakers that are tripping all the time, that'll be a much bigger issue.

In this case, you'll either need to have repairs made to your electrical panel or possibly even have it replaced altogether.

2. Physical Deterioration

The electrical control panel in your house is probably located in a place where you won't always see it. Electrical panels are often put in basements, utility closets, etc.

But you should make it a point to go and look at your electrical panel every now and then. It'll help you see how it's holding up and indicate if there is any physical deterioration going on with it.

If you notice your electrical control panel looking a little worse for wear, that might be reason enough to replace it.

3. Strange Smells

Does it ever smell like something might be burning in the general vicinity of your electrical control panel? This is one of the worst smells you can encounter in your home.

You'll want to contact an electrical service ASAP to have them come take a look at your electrical panel. Otherwise, you could very well find that your electrical panel could start a fire in the near future.

4. Appearance of Smoke

The only thing worse than smelling something burning in the area surrounding your electrical control panel is seeing smoke coming from it. This is a surefire sign that your electrical panel is on the verge of starting a fire.

Reach out to an electrical service quickly so that they can send someone out to your home to inspect your electrical panel. It'll most likely need to be replaced to stop it from starting a fire.

5. Lack of Space

If you live in a home for a long enough time, you might fill up all the available spots in an electrical control panel. When this happens, you may be able to get away with adding a subpanel.

But you might also have to replace your electrical panel with a new one that'll be big enough to meet all your home's electrical needs. It'll work much better for your house and ensure you're able to keep everything in it powered up.
